Steven Butchard’s script is an adaptation of Ian McEwan’s “The Redemption” eponymous novel, a lyrical and shattering account of the loss, love, and the inexplicable in life. Stephen Lewis is a successful child book writer who faces a terrible tragedy – he loses his 4-year-old daughter, Kate, in the supermarket. A few moments of distraction, which he constantly recalls in the coming years, lead to the loss of the child. The film looks at the heavy subject of a marriage ravaged by the loss of a child when Stephen and his wife, Julie, look for comfort for their own sorrow. Over time, the balance between them returns, and with it the hope.
